Indian cryptocurrency exchange Giottus has announced an exciting new initiative to spotlight and harness the country’s burgeoning Web3 talent. The upcoming hackathon, named ‘Block Bash’, is set to kick off on September 1 and will run through September 30, 2024. In collaboration with Crewsphere, a pioneering layer-1 blockchain platform focused on decentralizing the modern Internet, this event aims to drive innovation in blockchain technologies, including DeFi, NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and the metaverse.

A Lucrative Opportunity for Innovators

The Block Bash hackathon offers a substantial prize pool of $10,000 (approximately ₹8.4 lakh), distributed among the top performers. The prize breakdown is as follows:

  • First Prize: $2,000 (₹1.67 lakh)
  • Second Prize: $1,500 (₹1.25 lakh)
  • Third Prize: $1,000 (₹83,954)
  • Fourth to Tenth Prizes: $200 (₹16,790) each
  • Eleventh to Fifty-First Prizes: $100 (₹8,395) each

Participants will tackle one of eleven predefined problem statements using the CrewSphere blockchain. The challenge spans various domains, including SocialFi applications, DAO tooling, privacy-centric apps, Real-World Asset (RWA) DeFi protocols, e-commerce, and fintech.

Eligibility and Process

To enter, participants must be students or developers who have completed their KYC with Giottus. A pre-qualifier quiz will determine which teams advance to the main competition. The deadline to complete this quiz is September 25.

The competition will be entirely online, making it accessible to a wide range of participants across India. The evaluation panel will include experts from Giottus and the official India Hub of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), ensuring that submissions are judged by some of the leading figures in the blockchain space.

A History of Innovation and Engagement

Crewsphere is no stranger to organizing impactful hackathons. In 2023, the platform successfully hosted the Sankalp Web3 Tour and the ICP Hackathon, offering a combined prize pool of $100,000 (approximately ₹83.9 lakh). These initiatives have played a crucial role in fostering innovation and expanding the Web3 ecosystem in India.

Giottus and Crewsphere’s Block Bash hackathon is expected to further energize the Web3 community, providing a platform for developers to showcase their skills and contribute to the evolving landscape of blockchain technology. With significant prizes on the line and a focus on diverse problem statements, this hackathon promises to be a significant event for India’s tech innovators.

Stay tuned for updates as the competition progresses and watch for the announcement of winners at the end of September. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or a student eager to make a mark, Block Bash could be your gateway to shaping the future of Web3 technologies.
